Fume Cupboard Filters
We supply and install a wide range of replacement fume cupboard filters including carbon activated AC replacement filters and HEPA filters.
Replacement Fume Cupboard Filters
We offer a wide range of activated carbon (AC) replacement filters, that are fully optimised for the adsorption of hazardous materials.
Our range extends to cover the majority of the popular sizes of ductless fume cupboards including supplying custom ductless filters that are not offered by the OEM.
Each supplier can predict the chemical volume in grams or millilitres that can be retained by the filter in each unit prior to desorption taking place.
If you have concerns over which filters to choose for specific chemicals, as there are hundreds of different types of activated carbon and each is made to different specific applications, ask for a copy of our Chemical Reference List or complete our SAFA Filter Questionnaire.

Carbon Filter Introduction
Fume Cupboards. Fume Hoods and Fume Cabinets provide protection from fumes and vapours that are created by processes in the biotechnology, forensic, life science, education and pharmaceutical industry. Fume cupboards can be ducted into an existing HVAC system or can be ductless.
Ductless filtration systems provide highly efficient, sustainable protection in portable, standalone equipment that can fit in nearly any laboratory. In addition to energy efficiency, capital investment savings and customisable filtration, ductless fume cupboards can be designed to equivalent or safer performance than older ducted units.
There are, however, limitations to ductless technology and possible safety consequences from the misuse of ductless fume cupboards. It is important therefore to know recommended guidelines for ductless fume cupboard.
Factors That Affect Adsorption Efficiency
The ability of a filter to function efficiently is dependent on a number of factors including temperature, humidity, residence time, age of filter, evaporation rate and concentration.
Filter Maintenance Is Essential
Each ductless equipment manufacturer specifies replacement intervals for filters used in its products. Proper filter maintenance is essential for such equipment since all carbon filters have a capacity limit for the hazardous vapours that they remove from the equipment exhaust.
Without proper maintenance and periodic service, personnel may be exposed to those vapours with adverse health effects.
Even an ordinary, everyday chemical may be hazardous when exposure exceeds a threshold limit value (TLV), the concentration level at which it becomes harmful to health.

Filtco Filter Specification
Manufacturers' Statement > Filtco has designed our carbon media and filter manufacturing processes over several years. Filter assembly is carried out under strictly controlled conditions. We maximise efficiency of each carbon filter by assuring the quality of carbon media, the cartridge casing and the manufacturing method used.
Filtration Efficiency > Filtco filters deliver an efficiency of 99.9% during their service life (to the point of saturation), for all chemically active molecules/chemical materials, including most chemicals with a molecular weight above 30 and a boiling point above 60°C. Certain other chemicals also are widely adsorbed because of their molecular size and structure. To request the Chemical Absorbency Listing for Filtco carbon filters click here.
Carbon Media > Filtco carefully sources our carbon feedstock which as required includes the addition of thoroughly researched additives (see vapour handling). Each activated carbon media batch is tested to verify its optimised retention capacity and to assure superior performance of the finished filters.
Filter Casings > are manufactured from reinforced thermoplastic to produce a lightweight yet sturdy assembly for ease of handling and installation. The casing provides very high impact strength, excellent dimensional stability and chemical resistance. Casing geometry is configued with numerous individual cells for carbon media to help prevent settling or shifting.
Filter Assembly > Each casing is filled with activated carbon media, tightly packed to avoid settling during shipment, then weighed to verify proper amount of media to achieve target vapour retention capacilty.
Some Filtco models include pre-filters (Particle or HEPA filters). See manufacturers filter types for more details. For such models, the pre-filter is attached.
The assembled filter, with its pre-filter (if applicable) then are packed into a heat sealed plastic bag and robust box for shipping.
Testing > Filtco carbon filters comply with the requirements of British Standard BS7989:2001 and European Standard AFNOR NF X 15-211.
